Networked Energy Services Achieves First 100,000 Meters in its New Contract Electronics Manufacturing Facility in Romania

The State of the Art Facility Can Scale to Produce Millions of Smart Meters Each Year

San Jose, CA, November 20, 2019: Networked Energy Services Corporation (NES), a global smart grid solution provider with the industry’s leading Energy Applications Platform (EAPTM), is delighted to announce it has achieved production of the first 100,000 meters from its new global contract electronics manufacturing (CEM) facility in Romania. The facility is producing NES Generation 4 OSGP compliant single-phase and poly-phase smart meters, which incorporate advanced smart grid sensors, demand control and industry leading security features. Production lines will soon be extended to include the Distributed Control Node 3000 and NES CT meters.

These first 100,000 meters are being used in many smart grid projects around Europe in which NES plays crucial roles in helping DSOs (Distribution Service Operators) respond to the demands of the smart energy transition. The smart energy transition is driven by increased EV, green energy production, security demands and community energy projects – these applications require sophisticated smart meters; produced reliably, to high quality standards, at volume, and to operate without human intervention for many years in the field.

Consumers of the first 100K meters include DSOs in Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Romania and Albania, where exciting smart grid projects are in operation. The Production facility in Romania was selected for its strategic location within Europe. This enables NES to effectively and quickly deliver smart meters to its utility customers in European countries and also have access to a gateway for customers in other global markets including the Middle East and Africa.

“Achieving this milestone of 100,000 meters reflects the strength of the partnership between NES and its manufacturing partner” said Jonathan Watt, Chief Performance & Supply Chain Officer at NES. “We have solved the challenges of bringing a new manufacturing partner on-line through collaboration and are delighted not only to have achieved the time-lines we expected but to have built the foundations which will carry us through production expansion to meet the demands of the smart energy transition”.
