Networked Energy Services Expands Patagonia Applications Platform Interoperability

Larry Colton elected to DLMS UA Board of Directors to align with NES’ strategy to offer interoperable solutions

San Jose, CA, April 24, 2018 : Networked Energy Services Corporation (NES), a global smart grid solution provider with the industry’s leading Energy Applications Platform (EAPTM), announced today the launch of the latest software update that includes new capabilities expanding interoperability, communication flexibility, and knowledge creation.  In addition, NES is proud to announce that Larry Colton, Director of Global Business Development and Marketing, was elected to serve on the DLMS UA Board of Directors.

The Patagonia EAP solution now supports the DLMS/COSEM smart metering protocol in addition to ANSI and Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP) protocols, enabling a true interoperable Smart Grid.  This new capability allows utilities to integrate technologies from multiple vendors, leveraging various regional and global standards, without impacting upstream business and operational systems.  Another key capability with this release is support for cellular communications from 3rd party meter vendors, along with support for the new generation of NES GEN4 2G/3G point-to-point meters secured with AES-256 encryption, complementing the already robust NES security capabilities. Utilities now have options for choosing the most economical communication method depending on their operational needs.

On a related note, and aligned to NES’ strategy of cross-vendor participation in standards development, Larry Colton was recently elected to DLMS UA Board of Directors. In this role, he will work with the DLMS Chairman and other members on the Board to further pursue the objectives of the Association including its governance, strategy, and technical capabilities. This includes the continued expansion and enhancements of IEC and CENELEC versions of the DLMS suite of standards to ensure interoperability and co-existence with other standards, including OSGP.

“These updates to the Patagonia software solution have created a very flexible and interoperable choice for our smart metering rollout,” said David Thomson, President and CEO of NES. “Our Patagonia software solutions are extensible and scalable to provide today’s and tomorrow’s customers a choice of communication and metering technologies within one integrated solution.”

“I am honored to be elected to the DLMS UA Board of Directors,” said Larry Colton. “This is an endorsement of NES’ commitment to simplify AMI standards; giving NES customers a greater freedom to select smart grid solutions that ensure product interoperability and avoid a need to make compromises in other projects and requirements. This will lead to a more reliable smart grid that better utilizes the capabilities of modern metering solutions, and improves energy efficiency and sustainability.”
